Sculptures in the Park

A group of students at the entrance to the park

On Tuesday 22nd August, the Aboriginal Studies class travelled to the Baradine Discovery Centre and Dandry Gorge.

The group learnt about the construction of the sculptures that are located on the rim of Dandry Gorge. We watched a short film describing the construction of the sculptures and the students were surprised to see the familiar faces of friends and relatives.

An emu greeted us at the front gate of the gorge. The walk along the rim of Dandry Gorge was beautiful with wattles in blossom. The students studied each of the sculptures and thought about what they meant to them personally and how the sculptures  communicate with other people when they visit.

The group had lunch in the gorge under the gaze of the sculpture of the Aboriginal man with his son on his shoulders. Thanks very much to Mrs Stanton and Mrs Kenny for organising the day.
